For many years Tillicoultry Bowling Club have been delighted to accommodate a number of touring bowling clubs. After each visit (and a considerable number of drinks) the cry has gone up from Tilly members – “we need to go on tour” – but it just never happened – until this year!!

The first ever Tilly Tour came to pass on Sept 3rd when 32 members set off for what turned out to be one of the best weekends in the history of the club!
Arriving in Newcastle upon Tyne the bowlers quickly settled into the hotel – Friday evening was a free night with some staying in the hotel, a number visiting the local village, and the advantageous heading in to Newcastle “Toon” centre to sample the local atmosphere!
On the Saturday afternoon we were welcomed at Gosforth bowling club to enjoy the fantastic bowling green and great hospitality, Gosforth have a reputation as one of the north East’s most competitive clubs – but the Tilly tourists managed a 5-1 victory over them! – with the only Tilly team being defeated skipped by President Sean Ward!!

Gosforth BC – is not open on Saturday nights – so a social evening was organised at The Empire social club a few hundred yards away – where the tourists had a fantastic nights entertainment.
Sunday lunch time and the Bus headed to Morpeth BC and a chance to meet up with some old and very good friends, who have visited Tillicoultry in the past. On arrival the tourists spent the first couple of hours having lunch at the Riverside lodge before moving on to Morpeth bowling club.
A fantastic day of bowling and social activity evolved –with Morpeth providing a bar at their club for the first time ever in their history!! Once again the Tourists achieved a 5-1 victory over the opponents – the only losing Tilly rink being skipped by President Sean Ward!!!!!!
After the bowling and an excellent meal - Morpeth BC provided an evenings entertainment in a local club – hired especially for the visit.
During the evening the Tilly worst performing rink were presented with Jester hats which had to be worn for the rest of the night! – Sean Ward – Dave Richards – Bob Penman – Andy Dawson – were the unfortunate winners! A night of fun and dancing was enjoyed before the coach left for the return journey to Tillicoultry.

Everyone agreed that our first tour had been a monumental success – no arguments – no trouble – just club members enjoying each others company – it was no surprise therefore when a list for the next tour had 30 names on it within a couple of days!!!
Watch this space for news of the Tilly Tour 2011 !!!!!!!!!
(names are still being taken for the 2011 tour – list is on the notice board in the club – everyone welcome – but maximum is 48 – due to size of the bus)
